Vern joined Moneco Advisors in 2024 as a Financial Planner and has been a pioneer throughout his life. He served our country for 7 years in the Air Force and achieved the rank of Major. He wrote the first financial planning training manual for Fireman’s Fund and American Express titled “The Process of Financial Planning.” He has made a multitude of appearances on CNBC, Bloomberg, NBC, ABC, CNN, and other stations. Vern was the founding President of the Financial Planning Association chapter for Greater Hudson Valley, NY. He served on the Board of Directors for the College of Financial Planning and the national Financial Planning Association, as well as the Board of Trustees for the Certified Financial Planner Board of Standards. He has also authored two books on financial planning – “Money, Use it or Lose it” and “Getting an Investing Game Plan.”

Experience:
Along the way Vern helped found the firm Independent Financial Services in 1983 and then Hayden Financial Group in 1987. He sold Hayden Financial Group to Northeast Community Bank in 2007 as part of a multi-year transition to focus on a boutique curation of clients, most of whom had become lifelong friends. Vern joined the Harrison, NY firm, Rightirement, in 2021 serving as a mentor to the younger partners and ensuring that his current clients would be served well beyond Vern’s working years. He continues to work with some of those clients today and is enjoying the broadened level of services that the 2024 merger of Rightirement and Moneco Advisors now offers their clients. Looking back, Vern comments that historically many insurance companies and brokerage houses only wanted to sell insurance, stocks and bonds. Vern was starting a financial planning business in 1972 and decided to represent clients first, and not the products. As a result, the local life underwriter’s association for whom he worked asked Vern to leave his role. Correspondingly, the local newspaper in Marin County, California was curious about this new thing called financial planning and wrote a very complimentary and educational article giving Vern credit for helping people in a more objective way. Vern used this clients’ first approach and launched his first financial planning business in San Rafael, California. He then enrolled in the new CERTIFIED FINANCIAL PLANNER™ program and was designated as such in 1978.
Education & Certifications:
The College of Financial Planning created the CFP® designation and Vern held the title of Chairman of the College in 1994 and 1995. The College also created The National Endowment for Financial Planning (NEFE) in 1993 of which Vern was a Board member and Co-Founder. One goal of these groups was to make a significant impact in financial literacy including getting mandated courses implemented throughout American high schools. Vern had the pleasure of working with the founder of financial planning, Loren Dutton, in San Francisco and still holds his enthusiasm for the field in all he does.
Personal:
Ultimately, Vern knows financial planning is about families having the resources to afford a quality life with the people they love. He’s done the same for himself and is now situated well to enjoy his life the way he wants with the love of his life, Oksana. And his new book will be out in December 2025 titled: “How do I know you won’t steal my money?”
