Back-to-School Planning: Making College Savings Part of the Conversation
As families head back to school, it can be a good time to think beyond the upcoming school year and start planning for future education costs. While college may still be years away, starting early can give families more time to build savings and create a strategy that fits within their broader financial plan.
From making consistent contributions to utilizing a 529 education savings plan, there are a variety of approaches that can help families prepare for future college expenses while maintaining flexibility as their child’s plan take shape.
At its core, college savings is about more that simply setting money aside. It is about starting early, creating a thoughtful strategy, and balancing education goals with other important financial priorities to help put your family in a stronger position for the future.

The Dispatch: Monthly Market Update
Navigating a More Volatile Summer
Markets experienced a more uneven summer, as shifts in investor sentiment around artificial intelligence, rising oil prices, and changing interest rate expectations create periods of volatility. While the Federal Reserve kept rates steady, longer-term Treasury yields climbed and concerns around inflation and government borrowing added pressure to some of the market’s higher valued areas.
Despite these challenges, the broader economy and corporate earnings remained relatively resilient. Markets regained their footing as Middle East tensions eased and oil prices declined, with major U.S. indexes reaching new highs before renewed pressure from rising rates created a bumpier end to the month.
The recent market swings are a reminder that even strong markets rarely move in a straight line. For investors, maintaining a long-term perspective and focusing on how market changes affect their individual financial plans can be more valuable than reacting to short-term headlines.
